Chen Xiaohong (right), the president of HNUC, had a talk with students in the afternoon on May 3rd.

Changsha, May 3rd (Rednet, Reporter: Liu Yibin, Correspondents: Chao Jinwen, Chen Xiu) -- Recently, a video about rescuing drowning people at Orange Island spread via the internet. The main rescuers, born after 1995, are 6 students from the School of Art & Design of HNUC.

On May 2nd, Yi Lianhong, a member of the Standing Committee of Hunan Provincial CPC Committee and the secretary of Changsha Municipal CPC Committee, comments, "It reflects that Changsha is a civilized and caring city, and the joint effort to rescue the father and his daughter is worth praising and of educational significance.

On May 3rd, HNUC held a forum, at which Tang Yayang, the secretary of CPC committee, and Chen Xiaohong, the president of HNUC, spoke highly of the heroic behavior of the 6 rescuers, and called upon all students to learn from them to become the pride of HNUC and the city and convey positive energy to the society. At the forum, Tang Yayang said that their heroic behavior reflects their strong sense of social responsibility. Despite being a seemingly ordinary event, their heroic behavior is not possible without the education they have received, and their spirit of pushing themselves ahead at the critical moment is essentially different from the stander-by mindset which is popular in the online community, added Tang.

Among the 6 students who participated in the rescue, 3 are CPC members. Tang Yayang encouraged student CPC members to apply what they have learned from the event into daily study and work, actively convey positive energy, and help more young students draw inspiration and strength from the event.

Chen Xiaohong stated that she carefully watched the video and was deeply moved by and proud of the students who displayed the sense of responsibility and spirit of sacrifice in the event.  She said, “As the pillar and future of our country, university students should bear responsibility and devotion in mind and put it into practice, rather than being sophisticated and indifferent egoists.”

She added, “Caring for and cultivating students is the basis and purpose of HNUC’s education. All we do is to let the students feel being loved and helped, by which they will develop the correct outlook on the world, life and values and help those in need and convey their love and passion to others.”

On April 30th, 6 students of HNUC, e.g. Xu Shoubao, Xu Biao, Ren Xueting, Tang Jiaxin, Liu Meimei and Yan Na, and local citizens used bamboo and clothes to rescue a father and his daughter from water at the Orange Island. Their 20min rescue received widespread praise.

Xu Shoubao, standing in the center of the rescue team, is from Suqian, Jiangsu. He, used to be the class monitor, is a probationary CPC member, and a member of the grade management committee of the School of Art & Design and a member of HNUC’s entrepreneurial team. “Without our university’s long-standing safety education and social experience I have received, I would not have been calm in the face of danger”, said Xu.
