[XINHUANET] Opening Ceremony of 2017 Hunan Provincial College Students Table Tennis Competition Held in HNUC

Changsha, May 22nd (XINGHUANET, Reporter: Xie Ying) -- In the morning of May 21st, the opening ceremony of 2017 Hunan Provincial College Students Table Tennis Competition was held at the stadium of HNUC. 235 athletes from 31 colleges and universities across the province will participate in the 5-day competition.

This competition was organized by Hunan Provincial Education Department, undertaken by HNUC and executed by Students Sports Association of Hunan. The competition consists of two team events, i.e. men’s team event and women’s team event, and five individual events, i.e. men’s single, women’s single, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. It comprises seven categories, i.e. university category A, university category B, college category A, college category B, higher vocational college category A, higher vocational college category B and super category. The competition will be concluded on May 25th.

At 9 a.m., the opening ceremony began. To the rhythm of Sportsman March, athletes in uniforms entered the stadium in order in the midst of applause and cheers, exhibiting the good spirit of university student athletes in Hunan. In the midst of applause and cheers, athlete delegations entered the stadium.

After the representatives of athletes and referees took oath, Chen Xiaohong, the chairman of the organization committee and the principal of HNUC, announced the opening of 2017 Hunan Provincial College Students Table Tennis Competition. During the first round matches following the opening ceremony, athletes played hard intense competition in the midst of cheers and applause.

Liu Guoquan, the deputy principal of HNUC, said, “Table tennis is good for physical and mental health. More importantly, it can inspire the athletes and audience to work harder and push forward. The theme of this competition is unity, civilization and sportsmanship, which is not only the shared aspiration of all athletes but also the charm of sports. I hope that all athletes take this opportunity to learn from each other and work for better exchange and communication.”
