On March 26, the Young Volunteers Association of HNUC gathered some members from the Young Volunteers Association of School of Literature and Journalism and School of Foreign Studies in Yangmingshanzhuang Community, Yuelu Disitrict, and launched the third volunteer activity “free movies for public good”, which enriched the weekend life of the children in this community.

Organized by the Young Volunteers Association of HNUC, this initiative has been playing movies freely in the community from 14:00 to 16: 00 every Saturday since March 11. Volunteers were divided into groups and assigned tasks respectively. They made full preparations after determining the date and plan of the event. On the eve of the activity, the event planning and the outline of the film explanation would be sent to the person in charge of community activities who would copy movies suitable for community children into the U disk with backup, and dispatch special staff members to the community according to the established route to check the projection equipment. The preparation done, the volunteers would invite community children and parents to the seats and watch the films. After the film, the volunteers made a simple summary and actively interacted with the children, asking them questions and giving them small prizes. The event achieved the desired effect.

When these children were watching the film, volunteers with red hat acted as intimate guardians to stay with them, answering their questions, preparing for emergencies, so as to make sure the activity could go on smoothly. In addition, the volunteers would also play games with these children and read the picture books for them. The activity “free movies for public good” has become a friendship bridge which connects strangers and makes them friends.

As an important cultural industry in modern society, films attract a lot of people through their rich and varied forms and content as well as their far-reaching significance. Young people also need more weekend activities, and film watching is exactly one of them, for it could provide a platform for the majority of youth in the community for discussion, enable them to constantly and imperceptibly enhance themselves, make them the ones who can really appreciate films and communicate them with others. Moreover, they would get knowledge in this process. Through getting along with the volunteers from universities, children could also learn and feel the spirit of volunteers, and be inspired to become a little volunteer in their life.
