Satisfactory Completion of "the 13th Five-year Plan" Phase II Overseas Advanced Education Workshop

"The 13th Five-year Plan" Phase II Overseas Advanced Education Seminar has now been successfully concluded, with a group of 18 persons smoothly returning to school on the evening of Aug. 26. The trainees all have completed successfully and issued with certificates.

During the 15 days of studying and training, trainees successively visited multiple world-famous universities such as UCR (University of California, Riverside), UCLA (University of California-Los Angeles), California Institute of Technology, George Mason University in Washington, Columbia University, City University of New York, Yale University and West Point, and carried out multidirectional and in-depth study and discussion on multiple topics such as higher education leadership and management, university teaching management and service, university faculty management, undergraduate course construction and evaluation, application of modern educational technology in teaching and scientific research, construction of university discipline and academic integrity, college students' innovation and entrepreneurship education, college education quality evaluation, development of scientific research and management of scientific research project, scientific research and teaching of postgraduate, university-enterprise cooperation in running schools and its multi-cooperation mode, university academic exchanges and international cooperation.

After class, the trainees visited the campuses of universities, and exchanged views with teachers and students. Visiting the small building where Einstein lived at Caltech and exploring the footprints of Chinese scientists such as Qian Xuesen, Qian Weichang, Zhou Peiyuan and Guo Yonghuai who once studied at Caltech; visiting historic and humanistic ancient building and library with church style and walking into West Point, which is built in a key position, with the shock of soul of soldiers that take on the country, honor and responsibility; reciting Columbia University's motto "In lumine Tuo videbimus lumen" and listening to the world famous professor's proud words " Caltech is small in scale but doing the most profound things", and experiencing and feeling the intense passion and pride of the busy and dedicated professors and staffs for their work and career, the trainees were fully infected, inspired and motivated.

The trainees of this overseas advanced training mainly consist of the responsible persons of the university's discipline (orientation) team and specialty construction. In the process of learning, everyone actively overcame difficulties such as inadaptability in foreign life, strictly abided by the disciplines related to foreign affairs, seriously participated in seminars and attended lectures with questions, and made consideration closely centering on the construction of disciplines and specialties in combination with the university's development requirements and took abundant learning notes. Through learning and exchanges, everyone effectively broadened the horizon, and comprehended personally and understood deeply of the advanced experience of world-famous universities in the aspect of construction of disciplines and specialties, university management, etc. As required, the trainees will submit a summary of their individual visiting and learning, and a special report meeting will be held with secondary schools /discipline (orientation) team and specialty construction team as the unit to share learning achievement and discuss the ideas of discipline (specialty) construction, reform and development, and to submit new ideas and measures for discipline (orientation) construction and specialty construction.

With the strong support of university leaders and active organization of Personnel Office, International Exchange Office and other relevant departments, "the 13th Five-year Plan" Phase II Overseas (America) Advanced Education Seminar has been successfully concluded. The teachers effectively broadened their horizons and renewed their concept, and actively learnt from the successful practices of world-famous universities in the aspect of higher education to promote and improve their professional construction and management level of education and teaching; this will effectively promote the progress of " Two First-rates" and "Internationalization" of the university's teaching staff construction and assist in the objective realization of " Three Promotions".
